Notes of a meeting held in the recreation hall on Tuesday 6 April 1999. In attendance were; Stu Dutton, Peter Hesketh, Glynis McDonald, Ernie Jones, Winnie Jones
1. Bus Shelter: Ernie Jones said that unfortunately we were unable to obtain Welsh Office funding, but that the Community Council would consider contributing between £500 and £600. A suitable style and site were now being considered.
2.Tree Planting: Mrs Jones said that the commemorative plaque for the double red hawthorn is awaiting Church approval.
3. Peter Hesketh said that the logo was now available on paper from Martin Sullivan, on diskette from Peter Hesketh, or electronically from the World Wide Web in several formats. The URL is http://here.is/shirenewton/downlogo.htm
4. Glynis Macdonald said that bellringing would take place at midnight on 31 December 1999 and midday on 1 January 2000.
5. Stu Dutton said that the Millennium Pantomime would take place in the third week in January 2000. Volunteers are needed for sound, lighting and cast. The cast will consist of 8 principals, 4 adult chorus, and 8 children's chorus. Auditions/rehearsals will start in late August.
6. Glynis Macdonald said that the Passion Play will be performed on the Friday and Saturday before Palm Sunday, 2000, i.e. 14 and 15 April 2000.
7. Summer Dance: There will be space for 170. About 100 tickets have been sold so far.
8. Church Open Day, October 1999: This will either be organised by the Rector or by Glynis Macdonald.
9. Placing of memorial seats: volunteers are required, to take this on. Glynis Macdonald will write a note for the Parish Magazine requesting help and suggestions for locations. Mynyddbach Green was suggested at the meeting. The Community Council may be able to contribute to the cost.
10. Traffic calming measures are under discussion at the Community Council.
11. The Last Shirenewton Rounders Match of the Millennium will be held perhaps on 3 or 18 July 1999. Scratch teams of any size to be picked on the day.
12. Midnight Walk to the top of Gray Hill for the Summer Solstice. The actual solstice is Monday 21 June 1999, but Saturday 19 June might be more convenient.
13. Millennium Beacon: As the meeting did not have the brochure to hand, this was left until the next meeting.
11. Peter Hesketh agreed to find out progress of the other items before next meeting.
1. Candle-light procession is under review.
2. Church floodlighting and organ recital: dates to be determined.
3. Elaine Rigby said that as the members of her youth choir come from a wide area (Forest of Dean to Magor) it might be more appropriate if a more local choir was formed for the Passion Play. Elaine offered to coach the local choir.
4. Golf Club Open Day: It is now proposed that this would take the form of a Open Evening and Dinner Dance after the Fete on 10 June 2000.
5. Family Party, 31 December 1999: Provided insurance problems are resolved, tickets will be available in May. Provisional price £12.50 for adults, £8.00 for children.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 8 June 1999 in Shirenewton Recreation Hall at 8.00pm.
